Kenya continues to address the challenge of gender based violence through a wide spectrum of policies and laws but its magnitude remains unabated. Currently the cases of sexual gender based violence (SGBV) are sharply increasing. Invariably, all surveys done on GBV in the country and routine data reports manifest trends and patterns that need to be interrogated. The Kenya Demographic Health Survey Report (2008-2009) showed that almost half (45 percent) of women aged 15-49 in the country had experienced either physical or sexual violence, or both.
It is against this backdrop that the Kenya Women Judges Association is convening a workshop/retreat to discuss Gender based violence (SGBV especially) with a specific focus on the emerging trends and patterns, challenges, subject each other to peer review and design a way forward for this issue.
